The company’s agreement will allow Pfizer to continue to market the same brand-name drugs, both as an oral therapy and as an injectable medication, and thus be the market leader in the world of injectable treatment for the treatment of chronic relapsing fever (CRF).
“Theacquisition is a major milestone for Pfizer in its quest to develop a more affordable and accessible medication,” said Dr. David S. R. Weintraub, Pfizer Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “The FDA approved the first generic version of this product in December of 1996, and Pfizer is in the process of updating its patient information and labelling to reflect the availability of this generic drug. Our agreement will allow us to continue to produce and market this product in our markets, and thus allow us to continue to produce and market this generic drug.”
The agreement is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2017. Pfizer will continue to market this product in its global market. In October, it will also begin marketing the same product in Europe.
